The Supreme Court on Monday lifted the stay on the admission process in Indian Institute of Technology and various other institutions who start the admissions and counselling process based on the JEE Advanced examination.

The three-judge bench headed by Justice Dipak Misra vacated the stay on the admissions and counselling process for all the institutions - IITs, National Institute of Technology(NIT), and International Institute of Information and Technology(IIIT), while dismissing all petitions for awarding of the grace marks. It declared that no high courts must entertain any pleas and must not interfere in the admission process.

The apex court on Friday decided on a stay of the admission process as it found the awarding of 18 bonus marks to all candidates for wrong questions as a faulty move.

It further stated that errors, mistakes in framing of questions and in the printing of the question papers should not happen further in the future.

What does IIT have to say?

The re-evaluation of the papers were ruled out by the representative of Indian Institute of Technology, Attorney general KK Venugopalas 2.5 lakh students had taken the examination and said that it was not possible.

He mentioned that there were two incorrect questions in one out of the ten sets of question papers which was in the Hindi language and that that it was impossible to find out who opted for the entrance in Hindi medium. He stated that such a situation will not arise in the future.

The petition was filed by a student, who approached the court to announce that the act of declaring bonus marks violated her rights as well as the other aspirants'. Since then many students have come forward to ask the apex court to reject the rank list.
