Uncertainty Looms Over Number Of ALP Posts
Indian Railways opened its doors for the first phase of massive recruitment drive of the RRB ALP examination on Thursday. Over 47 Lakh candidates are expected to appear for the computer-based examination which will be held in more than 10 phases until August 31.
The Railway Recruitment Board (RRB) had announced the largest recruitment drive in the month of February for approximately 1 Lakh vacancies. These posts were divided as 62,907 for Group D vacancies and 26,502 posts for the assistant loco pilots (ALPs) and technicians.
However, until last week there have been speculations on the final or exact number of posts for the assistant loco pilots (ALPs) and technicians. It had been said that the number of seats initially mentioned in the official notification were likely to be increased. But, until now there is no confirmation from the recruitment board about the increase in posts. Although the RRB released a notification for examination updates, the air of uncertainty loomed owing to usage of the word ''likely'' in the official announcement, which was released in August, first week.

The first phase of the RRB ALP exam took place on Thursday. About 73.8 per cent of candidates appeared for the mega recruitment drive conducted by the railways. According to the sources, over 1.19 Lakh candidates have appeared for the first shift which took place at 416 centres in 160 cities spread across the country.
Minister of Railways, Piyush Goyal, has shared his opinion about the percentage of aspirants that appeared for the examination. He tweeted, "In the first shift of Recruitment Examination for Assistant Loco Pilot & Technicians, a record 73.8% attendees were present. My best wishes to all the candidates."

The RRB has decided to conduct the ALP exam in ten phases respectively on August 9, 10, 13, 14, 17, 20, 21, 29, 30 and 31, 2018. The RRB ALP exam will be conducted in the four stages namely, first stage CBT, second stage CBT, computer-based aptitude test and document verification.
The duration of the RRB ALP computer-based exam is 60 minutes that consists of 75 questions. It tests the aspirants on their subject matter expertise with regards to the following topics such as mathematics, general intelligence reasoning, general science and general awareness and current affairs. It is pertinent to mention that one-third of the mark will be deducted for each wrong answer chosen by the candidate in the exam, which can prove to be fatal for the candidates' marks.
