Recruitment of IPS Officers Increased From 150 To 200 From CSE 2020

The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) will now recruit 200 Indian Police Service Officers (IPS Officer) instead of 150 from Civil Services Exam (CSE) 2020.

During the Lok Sabha proceedings, Jitendra Singh (Minister of State for Personnel) said in a written reply "For IAS, according to the recommendations of the Baswan Committee and with the competent authority's approval, every year 180 IAS officers are employed through CSE since CSE-2012."

Increase In Recruitment of IPS Officers

Earlier, for IPS, 150 officers were recruited each year through CSE. According to Jitendra Singh, "There were 1510 posts for Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officers in the country against their authorised strength of 6,715. For IPS officers, there were 908 posts against their authorised strength of 4,982."

"Filling up of the posts is a constant process. It is the endeavour of the central government to fill up vacant positions expeditiously. Each cadre controlling authority intimates to the UPSC the vacancies to be filled up in the respective services through CSE every year through direct recruitment mode," Singh added.
