Centre To Revisit EWS Income Criteria

The decision to withhold the NEET PG Counselling 2021 process arrived following the Centre's submission before the Supreme Court that it will revisit the 8 lakh income ceiling criteria it has fixed for determining and permitting reservations to the EWS category in the AIQ for medical admissions, which will be taken in the next four weeks, Solicitor General Tushar Mehta said assuring the apex court of not proceeding with the counselling process before the final hearing on the matter.

Centre decided to reconsider its 8 EWS income slab criteria after the Supreme Court questioned the basis for fixing 8 lakh annual income criteria for determining the EWS category on the lines of determining OBC - NCL candidates on a uniform scale across India which has diverse standards of living and earning forcing the Centre to revisit the income criteria for deciding the economically weaker sections (EWS) category for granting reservation under AIQ for medical admissions requiring 4 weeks of time to arrive at an appropriate decision.
