The National Council of Educational Research and Training(NCERT) has come up with an initiative of developing an online portal which will allow the institutions and students across India to buy textbooks directly from the council. This step has been developed so that the books are available to the students in time by next year.
A Senior HRD official said, "The portal will be launched this month itself and schools, as well as individuals, will be able to place an order for books online and it will be delivered to them."
The NCERT books are at present printed by the education body and are delivered by the means of the authorised vendors throughout the country. Approximately 42.5 million NCERT books are being used by Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) affiliated institutions, according to many sources.
This initiative will help the parents and guardians to save a lot of expenses that are incurred on getting the books from private publishers. This is usually done on account of non availability of the NCERT books. The parents have complained to the Human Resource Ministry about the schools forcing the students to buy expensive books, thus causing a problem for them.
The cost of the books that are published by private publishers' are four to five times higher as compared to the NCERT textbooks. This move will bring changes in the state of the matter and help students to learn in a much affordable method.
