The Maharashtra education department has relaxed the age criteria for admission to the Pre-Primary and Class 1 admission, making this the third amendment since 2017. According to a Government Resolution (GR), the child should complete 3 years of age for admission to Pre-primary/nursery. The child should have completed 6 years of age for Class 1 admission. The revised age criteria will be effective from the academic year 2021-22. However, the cutoff date for both these admissions was set at December 31. In January 2020, the Maharashtra education department has revised the cut-off date for admissions to Pre-primary and Standard 1. The admission cutoff date was September 30 which was recently revised and set at December 31.
The official GR notice reads, "Schools can allow a relaxation of upto 15 days from the cut-off date. The decision to do so, rests with the school principals."
The Department in 2015 has decided to introduce July 31 as the cutoff date for Pre-primary and Standard 1 admission. In 2017, the government has changed the cutoff date from July 31 to September 30 for admission.
Earlier, the Maharashtra State School Education Department has announced that Class 5 will now be under the Primary section.
