The decision from the chief minister to reopen schools in Madhya Pradesh came ahead of a scheduled protest by private schools.

From September 2, at least 45,000 private schools affiliated with the Madhya Pradesh Board of Secondary Education were set to begin sit-in protests across the state to demand that schools be reopened.

When schools will resume in Madhya Pradesh, Chouhan stated that students will be required to bring approval from their parents in order to attend offline classes.

Chouhan added that school administration and parents will have to ensure that Covid-19 protocols are followed.

Madhya Pradesh Education Minister Inder Singh Parmar told PTI earlier this week that the government has planned to reopen schools for Classes 6 to 8 next month.

"However, in view of the pandemic, we are being extremely cautious in making a decision on this," Parmar told PTI.

After reopening schools for upper grades, the minister stated that the government would consider resuming offline sessions for lower grades (Classes 1 to 5).

"To begin, we intend to reopen middle schools with a limited number of students on specified days of the week. We're deciding on it. Following that, we'll consider resuming classes at primary schools (Classes 1-5) with proper precautions in place," stated the minister.

When asked about the MP Private School Association's (MPPSA) demand that all schools be reopened immediately, Mr. Parmar said that the government was considering over it taking the coronavirus situation into account.
