Google Employees To 'Work From Home' Until June 2021

Employees placed with Google will now be working from home (WFH) until June next year, according to the company's new work policy, making it the largest tech giant to have a such long-term commitment with its workforce.

The latest announcement by Google is aimed at giving its personnel more clarity and insight on how long they would be working from home (WFH).

Although, several of its counterparts - including Facebook and Twitter have allowed their employees to work from home for an indefinite period amid the coronavirus pandemic, they haven't fixed a definite timeline unlike Google.

Confirming of the new work from home (WFH) policy, Google CEO, Sundar Pichai in a statement issued via e-mail said, "To give employees the ability to plan ahead, we are extending our global voluntary work from home option through June 30, 2021 for roles that don't need to be in the office."

"The company had started opening its offices from early July, but that was only to allow those staff who wanted or needed to come back, and was done on a "limited, rotating basis," the statement further read.

The decision concerning the new work from home (WHF) policy was taken by the Google CEO following a call with executives last week, as reported in the Wall Street Journal (WSJ).

Google's decision is likely affect "nearly all" of the roughly 200,000 full-time, contracted Google employees, the WSJ added.
