By Malavikka

The last day to apply for CMAT 2017 has been extended from December 10 to December 15 now.
The exam dates are scheduled on January 28 and 29.

Common Management Admissions Test (CMAT) is an MBA admission entrance exam that was formulated to lower the pressure among MBA aspirants. The catch here however is that while CAT exam scores are important for some B-Schools, CMAT scores are accepted by other B-Schools.

Over 3500 B-Schools including JBIMS, Sydenham, KJ Somaiya, IMT and GIM among others accept CMAT scores.

Eligibility for CMAT:

For general category graduates from any discipline, 50 per cent of marks is required (45 per cent for reserved category students). The students appearing for their final graduate courses examination can also apply.

CMAT question paper pattern

  • As many as 25 questions of 100 marks will be asked in each section. These four sections are:
  • Quantitative Techniques & Data Interpretation:
  • Logical Reasoning
  • Language Comprehension and
  • General Awareness

The time allotted for the exam is two hours and the sections are not timed individuall. Students are expected to manage their time efficiently and time their answers between the sections. This is another way of ensuring their competency in all the sections.

Every correct answer is given four marks and a negative marking of one mark happens for wrong answers.

Selection Criteria for CMAT

Both overall test score and the individual sectional scores will determine the result. Those with high overall scores will get better ranks. However, the students will also be selected in terms of the individual sections when there is a tie between other candidates.

Those who scored better in quant will get better ranks. Logical reasoning, English comprehension and general awareness follow the quant section in the pecking order to decide a tie.
