NEET 2018: CBSE To Award Tamil Nadu Candidates 196 Extra Marks

Tamil Nadu NEET candidates will be awarded 196 extra marks for faulty translation of questions. CBSE will release the new rank list in two weeks.

The Madras High Court, today, ordered the Central Board of Secondary Examination (CBSE) to award 196 marks to NEET candidates from Tamil Nadu citing the wrong translation of questions in the question paper. Around 24000 candidates in Tamil Nadu will benefit from this decision. The paper was for a total of 720.

Why Are Tamil Nadu NEET Candidates Awarded Marks

A petitioner in Madurai had approached the Madras High Court for faulty translation of the questions. The Public Interest Litigation (PIL) said that 49 questions in the NEET 2018 question paper were wrongly translated into Tamil.

The court has also ordered CBSE to release the new rank list in two weeks and censured CBSE for being autocratic about its decision on errors. The court also ordered the education board to file an affidavit about the incorrect translation of questions.

Currently, the medical counselling sessions will be suspended to incorporate the changes after revision.

Meanwhile, the centre has also taken a decision to hold NEET twice a year in order to facilitate medical admissions for more number of students. The registration process for the upcoming NEET session will begin in October. The exams will be conducted in February and May every year.
