June 20, 2014: Bangalore based BiOZEEN, a bioprocess technology and bioengineering company took a leap, to further its efforts in bridging the industry - academia gap and launched a unique masters of science (M.Sc) program in Industrial Biotechnology in collaboration with Jain University.
Through this collaboration, BiOZEEN with its (Bio) Pharmaceutical experience and expertise would be an extended arm to the Jain University in its activities towards offering world-class education, nurturing technology innovation and infusing industry oriented skills to the students. The partnership lays the roadmap for active engagement of industry experts in curriculum development, joint research programmes and mentoring students to gain soft and technical skills in line with industry requirement.
The programme was launched on 16th of June, 2014 at the one day symposium on, "University-Industry Interaction - Fostering Innovations in Biotechnology Education, Research and Entrepreneurship through Collaborative Partnerships", which was graced by renowned Biotech fraternity of India - Padmashree Prof. M Vijayan - INSA Albert Einstein Professor Molecular Biophysics unit, IISC - the chief guest at the launch, Padmashree Dr. C.G Krishnadas Nair - Chancellor Jain University, Mr. Vibin Joseph - Executive Director, BiOZEEN, Bangalore, Dr. Jagadish Mittur - Biotechnology Facilitation Cell at KBITS, Mr. Raman K Ramachandran - CEO, HLL Biotech Limited, Chennai, Dr. Taslimariff - Director, COO C-CAMP, Bangalore, Mr. Amitesh Suman, ABLE, Bangalore, Dr. Ashok Ganesan - Head of R&D, BiOZEEN, Bangalore, Dr. N. Sundararajan - Vice Chancellor Jain University and Dr. Sudha Deshmukh - Director, Center for Post Graduate Studies & Dean, Faculty of Sciences, Jain University.
On the launch of this programme Mr. Vibin Joseph, Executive Director, BiOZEEN stated, "This symposium marks the beginning of a new era in the delivery of biotechnology courses and aims at nurturing industry ready talent who are industry aligned in terms of their aptitude and attitude. This programme was a brain child of two organisations - BiOZEEN & Jain University who are constantly striving towards facilitating a better future for the Biotech Community in India today."
Padmashree Dr. C.G. Krishnadas Nair, Chancellor, Jain University discussed the great challenges and opportunities that this programme offers to move ahead and make contributions to Industrial Biotechnology. "There are many opportunities for research as well as research leading to commercialisation. Encouraging entrepreneurial culture, Research & Development & innovation in business - this is where the importance of industry academia collaboration comes into being", he added.
Mr. Raman K Ramachandran, Chief Executive Officer, HLL Biotech Limited, Chennai, delivered the keynote address on the importance of universities joining forces with industry to offer students a more holistic course experience. "Initiatives such as these encourage more constructive engagement. University and industry are two sides of the same coin. Dissimilar but still integral to each other." He also expressed his appreciation for Jain University's commitment to develop not just good research scholars but to also developing entrepreneurs who can start new organisational set ups in research.
The chief guest Padmashree Prof. M Vijayan a doyen of innumerable national and international awards and honors launched the programme. Addressing the gathering he said "the smiling face of young India pleases me to no end. Our younger generation has access to much better research facilities and opportunities. Industry academia collaborations such as these will strengthen and encourage research in areas of industrial biotechnology in the country." He believes that there is requirement of more holistic paradigm in our approach to industrial biotechnology. He said that BiOZEEN and Jain University's initiative to collaborate with industry interface would enable research students to achieve new feats. "We must temple the thought that we are yet to scale greater heights, the younger generation of today will conquer great heights as some of our great scientists of the past." he added.
Eligibility to the Programme: A B.Sc. or an equivalent degree from a university recognised by UGC with chemistry/biochemistry and any 2 of the following subjects from life sciences - Botany, Zoology, Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Microbiology, Genetics, Environmental Sciences, Applied Botany, Applied Zoology, Applied Genetics, Molecular Biology.
