Annamalai University plans to introduce smart photo ID-card and biometric attendance system in all the departments for the faculty members.
The newly appointed state government administrator Shiv Das Meena, wants to start using this biometric way to make less usage of papers and registers.
The university will feed all the details about the faculty members into a database and feed it into a centralised server for easy access.
The smart photo ID-card will have an embedded chip containing the details of the candidate name, department, service details. Bio-readers will be installed in every department for the staff to punch the in and out timings of the faculty.
Earlier, the faculty members used to take attendance before the commencement of the classes. Some of thm would only take one hour class instead of taking the allotted two hour class. Some of them even used to leave the campus early before the closing timings of the office.
This new system will take an accountability of the each faculty and make it mandatory for the staff to stay on the campus for eight working hours.
As per the new system, a faculty member has to report the duty from 8 AM to 8.31 AM and can leave the department from 4.31 PM onwards. The office staff has to report from 9.15 AM to 9.46 AM and leave the office 5.46 PM onwards.
