AISHE Report 2019-20 Released, 27.1% Rise In Gross Enrolment Ratio (GER)

The Ministry of Education has released the prestigious All Indian Survey of Higher Education (AISHE) report 2019-20. Union Education Minister Dr Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank has approved the AISHE report 2019-20 prepared by the Department of Higher Education. Minister proudly announced that the number of PhDs increased by 60% in the last five years. There has been a huge growth in students enrolment in the last five years. AISHE Report 2019-20 Released

Education Minister Dr Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank said, "I feel delighted to announce the release of the All India Survey on Higher Education 2019-20 report. As you can see, we have improved in GER, Gender parity Index. The number of Institutions of National importance increased 80% (from 75 in 2015 to 135 in 2020). The number of PhDs has also increased by 60% in the last five years."

Minister tweeted, "The Gross Enrolment Ratio or the percentage of students belonging to the eligible age group enrolled in higher education is 27.1% in 2019-20, which has seen a rise from 26.3% in 2018-19 and 24.3% in 2014-2015."

Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank tweeted, "The Gender Parity Index in higher education stands at 1.01 against 1.00 in 2018-19, indicating an improvement in the relative access to higher education for females as compared to males."

AISHE Report 2019-20: Amazing Facts For Students

  • The number of universities has increased by 30.5% from 799 in 2015-16 to 1043 in 2019-20
  • The number of colleges has increased by about 8.4% from 39,071 in 2015-16 to 42,343 in 2019-20
  • The Gender Parity Index (GPI) in higher education stands at 1.01 against 1.00 in 2018-19.
  • The Gross Enrolment Ratio (GER) also known as the percentage of students belonging to the eligible age group enrolled in higher education is 27.1% in 2019-20.
  • The number of Institutions of National importance (INI) increased from 75 in 2015 to 135 in 2020.
  • The number of PhDs in the country increased by 60% in the last five years.
  • The total number of students pursuing an MBA grew from 4,09,432 in 2014-15 to 4,62,853 in 2018-19.
  • There is a huge jump in B.Ed enrolment by almost 80 per cent. A total of 11,75,517 candidates enrolled compared to 6,57,194.
