7th Pay Commission: Centre Tweaks Night Duty Allowance (NDA) Rules, All CG Employees To Benefit

The Central government has decided to do away with the existing practice of providing night duty allowance (NDA) to employees with a 'specified grade pay' signalling glad tidings for union employees under all ministries and departments, as per the sources.

The move is a part of the recommendations of the 7th Pay Commission that led to the tweaking of current night duty allowance (NDA) rules by the union government that is likely to benefit scores of central government employees, who will be engaged in discharging their duties at night, in addition to their regular duty hours.

The Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) in tasked with implementing the 7th Pay Commission recommendations concerning the new night duty allowance (NDA) rules. Given this, the DoPT has issued a new set of instructions for executing the new NDA norms.

According to the new NDA rules, as reported by the Financial Express, no further compensation will be admissible wherever the working hours have been arrived at after taking into account the night weightage factor.

A uniform weightage of 10 minutes will be given for every hour of night duty performed, the report added.

As per the new instructions, as recommended by the 7th Pay Commission, any duty performed between 10 pm to 6 am is considered as night duty with Rs. 43,600 (per month) as a fixed ceiling on the basic pay to be entitled for night duty allowance.

The DoPT instructions also state that the Centre will pay the night duty allowance (NDA) at the hourly rate equivalent to BP+DA/200 as recommended by the 7th Pay Commission.

The new NDA rules will be applicable to employees across all ministries and departments of the central government comprising railways, defence, ordnance factories and other sectors
