Only 50% of candidates applied for PGECET 2013 counselling

PGECET 2013 counselling till Aug 19
Osmania University (OU), Hyderabad had started the PGECET 2013 counselling from Aug 11 to 19, 2013.

More than 50% of PGECET candidates applied for admission in to M.Tech/ M.Pharm/ M.Arch courses.

The document verification process for PGECET was concluded on Aug 11 in 12 centres across the state.

The document verification process will end on Aug 19, 2013.

According to PGECET convener, Prof A Venugopal Reddy, only about 38,000 candidates of the 82,000 cleared the PGECET admission.

Though in all, the PGECET had got 45,000 candidates admissions, 7,200 secured the admission on the basis of rank obtained in GATE (Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering) and GPAT (Graduate Pharmacy Aptitude Test) - the two national entrance tests to fill the M. Tech and M. Pharmacy seats respectively.

The state has 65,000 seats in M. Tech and M. Pharmacy combined in convenor quota alone which means that the disinterest of candidates having cleared the PGCET would leave a huge number of seats in convener quota unfilled.

Besides these, there would be 33 per cent of seats in the management quota, 21,000 in M. Tech and 4,000 in M. Pharmacy, on offer for which the colleges need to find candidates.

This may also mean that the disinterest of PGECET candidates will leave a good number of seats unfilled during the current academic year in 2013-14.

PGECET 2013 exam was conducted by University college of Engineering, OU on behalf of A.P. State Council Higher Education (APSCHE), for admission to the PG Courses in Engineering, Technology, Architecture, Pharmacy and Planning.
