The Constituent Assembly of India had adopted Hindi as the official language of India on September 14, 1949. Hindi Diwas is celebrated on September 14 to commemorate the official announcement made by the Assembly. Hindi is one of the 22 languages of the Republic of India. It is written in Devanagari script along with the English.

Hindi Language In Indian Constitution

Students can find about the official language of the country in the Constitution of India in Part XVII (Official Language). The Article 343 says, ''The official language of the Union shall be Hindi in Devanagari script.'' It also described, ''The form of numerals to be used for the official purposes of the Union shall be the international form of Indian numerals.''

  • Grasim the Taisi, a French writer, composed the first literature on the history of the Hindi language.

  • Some of the Hindi words that are commonly used in English are - Bandana, Bangle, Cheetah, Cot, Juggernaut, Shampoo and Dungaree.
