In 1966, the United Nations Educational Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) organised the 14th general conference and announced that September 8 will be the International Literacy Day. Literacy is also the key component of the UN's Sustainable Development Goals and the UN's 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
