The Quacquarelli Symonds (QS), which is popular across the world for hosting the educational events, has announced the World University Rankings 2019. The Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) from the United States of America has successfully defended its crown for the 7th consecutive time in a row.
Though the QS World University Rankings 2019 is dominated by American and European universities, Indian universities have also increased their score and ranks considerably. As the number of universities increased from 959 to 1,000 in the QS WUR 2019, there is an increase in the total number of Indian universities compared to last year. A total of 24 Indian universities are featured in the QS World University Rankings 2019, and IITs continue to dominate the top positions. Most of the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) are maintaining the momentum and taking the lion's share of the country in rankings. Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bangalore, and University of Hyderabad have improved their rankings compared to last year. However, University of Calcutta and University of Mumbai continue to register the poor rankings.
While coming to the methodology of the World University Rankings, QS ranks the universities based on the six performance indicators, namely Academic Reputation (40%), Employer Reputation (10%), Faculty/Student Ratio (20%), Citations Per Faculty (20%) and International Faculty Ratio & International Student Ratio (10%).
