Atal Bihari Vajpayee was the first non-congress prime minister who successfully completed his five-year tenure. The 10th prime minister of India, Atal Bihari Vajpayee is not only known for his political mileage or statesmanship but also for his fondness for language and poetry.

 

When it comes to education, Atal Bihari Vajpayee has a clear vision that education is the most important and primary path that can lead India towards development and world recognition.

Vajpayee has laid a major cornerstone in the education sector during his years as the prime minister. These included the setting up of the five new IITs in 2003 by upgrading the existing academic institutions, making it an influencing example for other leaders.

Vajpayee's Dedication To Education

Along with pioneering the building of institutions, Atal Bihari Vajpayee started a globally renowned education program which has lead to educating more than millions of children in the country and has enhanced the quality of all the government schools in every nook and corner.

Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan

Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA), a centrally sponsored scheme implemented by the government of India in partnership with state governments, was pioneered by Atal Bihari Vajpayee. The programme was launched with an aim to make education accessible to everyone.

The programme was launched in 2000-2001 and has achieved success in making elementary education for all. According to the Department of School Education & Literacy under HRD Ministry, over 19.67 crore children enrolled in 14.5 lakh elementary schools in the country with more than 66 lakh teachers at the elementary level.

Atal Bihari Vajpayee Education

The recipient of Bharat Ratna in 2015, Atal Bihari Vajpayee was educated at Victoria College (now Laxmibai College), Gwalior. He pursued his master's in political science from DAV College in Kanpur. Along with the degrees, many scientific accomplishments and literary works are there to his credit.

Vajpayee's Love Towards Language

Vajpayee, who believes that empowering an individual means empowering the nation, edited Rashtradharma and Panchjanya, two Hindi monthly and weekly magazines, respectively. His published works that include Meri Sansadiya Yatra, Meri Ikkyavan Kavitayen, Sankalp Kaal and Shakti-se-Shanti. There are many books that are there to his credit, however, the above-mentioned ones are most popular.

Atal Ji surely displayed his fondness for language in various forms. When asked about the happiest moment, he said, "Yet to come... uptill now, the occassion when I delivered a speech in Hindi at the United Nations General Assembly."
