All You Need To Know About CAT Prior To Release Of Official Notification

If you are an MBA aspirant, gear up! The most popular management entrance examination in the country, Common Admission Test (CAT), will take place in November. According to the sources, the detailed notification for CAT may be released in July/ August. The Common Admission Test (CAT) is conducted for admissions to 20 Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs) and more than 100 top business schools spread across the country.

 

Every year, more than two lakh candidates take this computer-based examination in over 140 cities. Candidates who clear CAT will be eligible to pursue courses such as PGDM, EPGP, PGPEX and others. Prior to the CAT notification, let's tour everything you need to know about the examination!

All About Common Admission Test (CAT)

CAT Eligibility Criteria

Candidates must possess a bachelor's degree with at least 50% marks or equivalent from the recognised university. The minimum percentage for the SC, ST and PWD (persons with disability) candidates is 45%. Candidates appearing for the final year of their bachelor's degree or its equivalent examination are also eligible to apply for CAT. Candidates can choose any section to start and switch between them. The total marks for CAT will be 300 and one mark will be deducted for every wrong answer. Reservation

The seats will be allotted based on the legal reservation. 15% of the seats are reserved for SCs, 7.5% for STs and 27% for OBC candidates belonging to the non-creamy layer. However, 5% is reserved for PWD candidates.

Registration Fee

The registration fee for CAT will be Rs 1800 for general candidates and Rs 900 for SC/ST/PWD (DA) and the non-creamy layer of OBC candidates.

CAT Syllabus

The CAT examination will be conducted to test the candidates on their logical thinking and critical thinking skills besides their aptitude. As we mentioned above in the exam pattern, the test will be on the sections such as quantitative aptitude (QA), data interpretation & logical reasoning (DILR) and verbal and reading comprehension (VRC).
