JEE Main Exam

Joint Entrance Examination Main (I) & (II) Exam

JoSSA Counselling

The Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA) was set up by the Ministry of Human Resources Development (MHRD) to regulate and manage the seat allocation for admission to institutes. The admission will be conducted for a total of 107 institutes that includes 23 IITs, 31 NITs, 25 IIITs and 28 Other-Government Funded Technical Institutes (Other-GFTIs). The admission to all the academic programs offered by these institutes will be made only through a single platform JoSAA.

Candidates should get familiar with the JEE counselling process after the release of the result. Aspirants who have qualified in the entrance examination should be very careful during the registration and choice filling. Explore the complete details regarding the JoSAA counselling.

JEE Main Counselling 2019: Steps Students Should Know

The registration and choice filling should be done very carefully. To make the JoSAA counselling process easy, the below 8 steps will help candidates to land at the institutes' doors.

Step-1: Registration

The registration is the first step and candidates who have appeared in JEE Main are eligible for seat allocation in NIT+ system. Candidates who have qualified in JEE Advanced are only eligible to register for the seat allocation in all participating institutes. One should use their JEE Main or Advanced login credentials to register.

Step-2: Choice Filling

After registration, one can start fill in their choices of branches and institutes in decreasing order of their preference. Candidates have to choose the choices based on their eligibility. The final list of choices will be released on the screen once the registration process is completed.

Step-3: Locking Of Choices

Candidates should lock their choices after filling them in. If they do not lock the choices, the last-saved choices will be locked automatically. We advise candidates to lock the choices at least 24 hours before the deadline to avoid a last-minute rush. It is advised to refer our special story on tips for Filling-in Choices and Locking of Choices in JoSAA Counselling.

Step-4: Number Of Rounds Of Seat Allocation

The JoSAA counselling will be conducted in seven rounds. For every round, the document verification and acceptance/withdrawal of seat will be done.

Step-5: Seat Acceptance

Candidates will be allotted a seat in this round. One must download their Provisional Allotment Letter. Candidates should pay the seat acceptance fee through the SBI e-Challan/SBI Net Banking/SBI Debit Cards for provisional seat acceptance. After the fee payment, they have to verify the documents at any reporting centre for the provisional seat acceptance. One can refer to the exclusive article on What After Seat Acceptance in JoSAA Counselling.

Step-6: Participation in Subsequent Rounds

If a candidate is not satisfied with the seat allotment, they can opt to reject it. The ''freeze'' option will help candidates to select the seat. The option of ''Float'' means a candidate has accepted the seat but prefers a higher institute and/or course. The meaning of ''slide'' option is a candidate will accept the seat in the institute but indicates that he/she will take it only for admission to a better course in the respective institute.

Step-7: Reporting Centre

After the confirmation, one should pay the prescribed fee and report at the designated reporting centre for document verification. If students fail to report, the admission will be cancelled.

Step-8: Report To Allotted Institute

After completing the document verification, candidates have to report to their respective institute to confirm their admission. One can pay the necessary amount if any payment is due. We advise candidates to carry the printout of the final locked choices while reporting.

If a candidate's allotment changes from NIT+ system to an IIT, the candidate must report once again at an IIT reporting centre. This is the same for the IIT to NIT+ system. If a candidate fails to do so, the seat will not be declared valid in both the NIT+ system or the IIT one. A candidate can withdraw a seat up to the sixth round of the seat allocation process.

What After The First Round Of Seat Allocation In JoSAA Counselling

All the seats will not be filled in the first round of JEE Main counselling. If a candidate didn’t secure any seat in the first round, he/she has to wait for further rounds because many changes will take place during the second round. Many students do not pay the fee or accept the seat in the first round. Hence, we advise candidates to stay calm and draft plans for the second round without getting demoralised.
