Established in 1969, the Institute of Hotel Management, Bangalore, also known as IHM Bangalore, is under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Tourism, Government of India. It is an autonomous registered society which was formed with the joint effort of the Government of India and the Government of Karnataka.
IHM Bangalore is affiliated to the National Council for Hotel Management and Catering Technology (NCHMCT), Noida and recognized by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), New Delhi. IHM Bangalore aims at training students to become future stalwarts in the hotel and catering industry.
In 1969, it was started as a Food Craft Institute, which used to offer short-term courses. In 1983, the institute was renamed as Institute of Hotel Management. After this, the institute started offering the three-year graduate programme in hotel and hospitality administration.
The institute also offers a two-year postgraduate programme in the same field. Add-on certificate courses and diploma courses are also offered. Along with IHM Pusa, IHM Bangalore is the only institute that offers the postgraduate programme, Master of Science in Hospitality.
The institute offers distance education under Indira Gandhi National Open University, New Delhi. It offers a B.Sc. degree in hospitality studies and catering services.
The institute has been awarded the National Tourism Award 2003. It has also been ranked as one of the top two hotel management institutes in the country.
Students seeking admission to the college should qualify in the National Council of Hotel Management and Catering Technology Joint Entrance Examination (NCHMCT JEE). Admission is based on the rank at the national level in the examination.
