About Dr. R. Ahmed Dental College
Under the guidance of Dr. Rafiuddin Ahmed, Dr. R. Ahmed Dental College, Kolkata was established in 1924. It is a constituent college of Dr. R. Ahmed Dental College & Hospital, Kolkata. The college is under the Govt. of West Bengal, Govt. of India.
Dr. R. Ahmed Dental College is affiliated to the West Bengal University of Health Science, Kolkata. The college is approved and recognized by the Dental Council of India, New Delhi. The college aims at providing excellent patient care services through research, education and clinical expertise.
Dr. R. Ahmed Dental College has two campuses, an old campus, and a new campus. At both the old and new campuses, postgraduate and undergraduate training for both clinical and pre-clinical aspects are conducted. The clinical facilities for training purposes in case of medical subjects are available at the NRS Medical College.
Dr. R. Ahmed Dental College is the only government dental institute in the whole of India that has the latest laser technology. At the state level, the college has acquired the 22nd rank. The Government of NCT of West Bengal has declared Dr. R. Ahmed Dental College as a 'Center of Excellence'. The college is considered as one of the best dental institutions in the category of dental sciences.
Dr. R. Ahmed Dental College offers an undergraduate (BDS) programme and a postgraduate (MDS) programme for 5 years and 3 years, respectively, and also various specialized courses. The college has tie-ups with several institutions and universities worldwide and offers research partnerships and exchange programmes.
A form available online on the college's website enables the applicants to fill in their educational achievements and interests. Before applying for admission to the college, students should check whether their total aggregate marks, i.e., the best of four/PCM/PCB, whichever is applicable falls within the percentage as specified by the dental college for admission to the various courses that are offered.
Students applying for the undergraduate course should clear the All India Premedical Test (AIPMT) or the West Bengal Joint Entrance Examination (WBJEE). Admission is done based on the scores in these exams. Students applying for the postgraduate course (MDS) should clear the All India Post Graduate Entrance Examination (AIPGMEE).

- The library now contains 5,000 books of various subject’s, 25 National Journals and 75 International Journals. There is a reading room attached to the library wherein dailies, Magazines, periodicals, e-books, Photocopying services, Internet connection are available
- The library has 3 separate sections - a) Reference (b) Lending and (c) Reading
- The college has established an Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) to assure the quality of the college
- The State Government and the Central Government offers a number of scholarships to the meritorious students and the students belonging to SC / ST / OBC
- Seminars are organized at departmental levels from time to time to enrich the level of knowledge of the students in the relevant field
- Hi-Tech internet facilities can be availed by the students and teachers as per their needs
- The Institution established one anti-ragging committee. The Institution formed one committee associated with students and teachers for anti-ragging. The decision of the committee is the final for any punishment against ragging
- Continued Dental Education (CDE) programme is conducted once in 3 months in the college. Its importance is to gain more knowledge in the field of dentistry.
- Hi-Tech theory class was taken through "Touch On Cloud" Software to the Students with iPad and Laptops
- The patients were explained and counseled about their problems through the i-Pad explanation with pictures. In order to understand the basic relation between Sugar & Dental Caries as well as improper brushing technique and Periodontal diseases, this i-Pad counseling got overall success criteria
- Mentor-Mentee system is a program designed exclusively for students to interact with one faculty who helps the student to solve academic, and other personal problems. Mentor, in turn, interacts with Deputy Chief Mentor and Chief Mentor for further measures. Apart from this, counseling is provided by professional counselors
- Department of Periodontics has conducted the "Laser Hands-on Course" for all the CRRIs who posted in the department and also given demon in Vegetables and patients with appreciation Certificate
- The college strongly believes in overall development of the student and hence extracurricular activities of the students are given equal importance
- The Root Canal Treatment (RCT) has been done under the "Endodontic Microscope" in Post Graduate Clinic of Conservative and Endodontic Department
- Annual Cultural week and Sports week are arranged to bring the talents of the students to the fore while prizes won at intercollegiate tournaments speaks volumes especially the group dance troupe
