Girls To Enter Sainik Schools From Academic Session 2021-22: Defence Minister

To achieve gender equality, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh has taken a bold step to allow girl students to pursue an education in Sainik Schools from the 2021-2022 academic session. It will be implemented in a phased manner.

Rajnath Singh has taken this step after the success of the pilot project launched in the Sainik School at Chhingchhip in Mizoram two years ago by the Defence Ministry.

How Can Women Join Indian Navy?

According to a press release, "Raksha Mantri has directed concerned authorities to ensure availability of necessary infrastructure and sufficient female staff in Sainik schools for smooth implementation of the directive."

It also reads, "The decision is in line with the objective of the Government towards greater inclusiveness, gender equality, enabling greater participation of women in Armed Forces and strengthening the motto of 'Beti Bachao Beti Padhao', propagated by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi."

The Sainik Schools were established and managed by the Sainik Schools Society under the Ministry of Defence. There are around 30 Sainik Schools across the country which will prepare students to enter into the National Defence Academy (NDA) and Naval Academy (NA).

For admission to Sainik Schools, candidates need to appear for All India Sainik Schools Entrance Examination followed by an interview and medical examination.
