Philosophy

5 September 1888 - 17 April 1975

Glimpse to his career

He was an Indian philosopher and statesman, who was the first Vice-President of India (1952-1962) and the second President of India from 1962 to 1967.
In April 1909, he was was appointed to the Department of Philosophy at the Madras Presidency College.
In 1918, he was selected as Professor of Philosophy by the University of Mysore.
In 1921 he was appointed as a professor in philosophy to occupy the King George V Chair of Mental and Moral Science at the University of Calcutta.

Awards and Honours

1931: appointed a knight bachelor in 1931, although he ceased to use the title.
1938: elected person of the British Academy.
1954: The Bharat Ratna, the highest civilian award in India.
1954: German "Order pour le Merite for Arts and Science
1962: Institution of Teacher's Day in India, yearly celebrated at 5 September, Radhakrishnan's birthday, in honour of Radhakrishnan's believe that "teachers should be the best minds in the country".

Glimpse to his career

He was an Indian physicist whose ground breaking work in the field of light scattering earned him the 1930 Nobel Prize for Physics.
He was appointed the first Palit Professor of Physics at the University of Calcutta.
On 28 February 1928, Raman led experiments at the IACS with collaborators, on the scattering of light is called the Raman effect.

Awards and Honours

He was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society early in his career (1924) and knighted in 1929.
In 1930 he won the Nobel Prize in Physics.
In 1941 he was awarded the Franklin Medal.
In 1954 he was awarded the Bharat Ratna.
He was awarded the Lenin Peace Prize in 1957.

He taught mathematics at the Muthialpet High School in Chennai, India.
He was Fullbright exchange teacher in the US for a short period.
He served as a lecturer in the NCERT in India.

Glimpse to his career

He currently serves as the Head of the Scientific Advisory Council to the Prime Minister of India.
Rao became lecturer at IISc in 1959.
He headed the Dpt. of Chemistry, at IIT Kanpur from 1963 to 1976.
He became Director of the IISc from 1984 to 1994.
He has also been a visiting professor at Purdue University, the University of Oxford, the University of Cambridge and University of California, Santa Barbara.
He was the Jawaharlal Nehru Professor at the University of Cambridge and Professorial Fellow at the King's College, Cambridge during 1983-1984.
Rao is currently the National Research Professor, Linus Pauling Research Professor and Honorary President of Jawaharlal Nehru Centre for Advanced Scientific Research, Bangalore which he founded in 1989.

He is Secretary of Department of Biotechnology, India since 28 January 2013, replacing Maharaj Kishan Bhan.

In 1998, K. VijayRaghavan was conferred with the Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Prize for Science and Technology award by the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research.
In 2003, he received the Distinguished Alumnus Award of IIT Kanpur.
In 2012, he received the H K Firodia Award "for his original contributions to the field of life sciences, particularly to developmental biology, genetics and neurogenetics.
In 2013, he was conferred the Padma Shri by the President of India.

Roddam Narasimha

Glimpse to his career

He was a Professor of Aerospace Engineering at the Indian Institute of Science (IISc).
He was Director of National Aerospace Laboratories (NAL) and the Chairman of Engineering Mechanics Unit at Jawaharlal Nehru Centre for Advanced Scientific Research (JNCASR), Bangalore, India.
He is now an Honorary Professor at JNCASR and concurrently holds the Pratt & Whitney Chair in Science and Engineering at the University of Hyderabad.

Awards and Honours

Narasimha has been awarded the Padma Vibushan, India's second highest civilian award, in 2013.
He was awarded the Trieste Science Prize by TWAS, the academy of sciences for the developing world in 2008 and many more.

He was amongst the most famous of Kannada poets of the Navodaya Period.
He started his career as a teacher at Victoria high school (Renamed as Vidyaranya High school after independence) in Dharwad.
He worked as a professor of Kannada in D.A.V. College Solapur between 1944 and 1956.

He was an Indian Jewish poet, actor, playwright, editor and art-critic.
From 1961 to 1972, he headed the English department of Mithibai College, Bombay.
He held short-term tenure as visiting professor at University of Leeds (1964) and University of Pondicherry (1967).

Sahitya Akademi Award in 1983 for his Poetry collection.
He is recognized and appreciated as being one of the most notable and accomplished Indian English language poets of the 20th century.

He is well know Indian historian from Karnataka.
He started his career as professor of History at Sir Parshurambhau College in Pune in 1938.
He later worked at University of Ahmedabad.
After 1960, he started his tenure as professor, later Head of Post Graduate Department of History at Karnataka University, Dharwad.

Honours

He is said to be the first historian to use epigraphical sources for the study of social history which is what current days students of history do.
He is said to be a pioneer in throwing light on socio-economic polity of Karnataka over the ages.
His last book Ancient Indian Political Thought and Institutions, is said to be a masterpiece.
