  • He was an Indian philosopher and statesman, who was the first Vice-President of India (1952-1962) and the second President of India from 1962 to 1967.
  • In April 1909, he was was appointed to the Department of Philosophy at the Madras Presidency College.
  • In 1918, he was selected as Professor of Philosophy by the University of Mysore.
  • In 1921 he was appointed as a professor in philosophy to occupy the King George V Chair of Mental and Moral Science at the University of Calcutta.
  • Awards and Honours

    • 1931: appointed a knight bachelor in 1931, although he ceased to use the title.
    • 1938: elected person of the British Academy.
    • 1954: The Bharat Ratna, the highest civilian award in India.
    • 1954: German "Order pour le Merite for Arts and Science
    • 1962: Institution of Teacher's Day in India, yearly celebrated at 5 September, Radhakrishnan's birthday, in honour of Radhakrishnan's believe that "teachers should be the best minds in the country".

      • He was an Indian physicist whose ground breaking work in the field of light scattering earned him the 1930 Nobel Prize for Physics.
      • He was appointed the first Palit Professor of Physics at the University of Calcutta.
      • On 28 February 1928, Raman led experiments at the IACS with collaborators, on the scattering of light is called the Raman effect.

        • He was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society early in his career (1924) and knighted in 1929.
        • In 1930 he won the Nobel Prize in Physics.
        • In 1941 he was awarded the Franklin Medal.
        • In 1954 he was awarded the Bharat Ratna.
        • He was awarded the Lenin Peace Prize in 1957.

              • He became Director of the IISc from 1984 to 1994.
              • He has also been a visiting professor at Purdue University, the University of Oxford, the University of Cambridge and University of California, Santa Barbara.
              • He was the Jawaharlal Nehru Professor at the University of Cambridge and Professorial Fellow at the King's College, Cambridge during 1983-1984.
              • Rao is currently the National Research Professor, Linus Pauling Research Professor and Honorary President of Jawaharlal Nehru Centre for Advanced Scientific Research, Bangalore which he founded in 1989.

                      • He is now an Honorary Professor at JNCASR and concurrently holds the Pratt & Whitney Chair in Science and Engineering at the University of Hyderabad.
