Internships are a great way for students to gain experience and explore career opportunities. Internships have become a must for students. Without the work experience they provide, the job search after graduation cab be significantly more difficult.

 

Internship is a fantastic way to meet new people and to learn more about your chosen industry. There are a number of things you can do to get the most out of your internship experience.

Communicate

  • Meet your supervisor to review your internship goals and expectations.
  • Ask questions to clarify timelines and to identify all your who, what and why.
  • Improvise on your assignments to fit into the goals and projects of the organisation.
  • Be diplomatic and professional.
  • Ask for regular and specific feedback on your performance.

Take Initiative

  • You might end up doing filling, faxing or collating as a part of any internship. These tasks, which may seem menial at the time, can help you learn more about the organisation.
  • Show your quality and interest in work by paying attention to details.
  • Be resourceful and suggest projects that you can complete.
  • Ask if you can attend meetings, so as to get further insight to your organisation.
  • Build networks, talk to your co-workers about their professions.
