Top 10 State Universities in India 2015

The WEEK- Hansa Research Survey, carried out a survey on top state universities in India recently.The research, based on factual informations and academic expertise has eventually come up with a list of top ten state universities in India. The top ten universities are listed below.

#1 University of Calcutta
University of Calcutta is a public state university, located in Kolkata, West Bengal. It was established in 1857 and it was the first Indian institution to be established as a multidisciplinary and secular Western-style university. The university has the highest number of candidates who have cleared the National Eligibility Test to pursue research with full scholarship by Govt of India.

The University of Calcutta was ranked 401+ in the QS World University Rankings of 2011 and 43 in the QS University Rankings for Asia in 2012. It was ranked 2 by the India Today Top India Universities of 2012 and 2013 and 2014.

#2 Osmania University
Osmania University is a public state university located in Hyderabad, Telangana. It was founded in 1918 and is the third oldest university in southern India. It is known to be the first Indian university to have Urdu as a medium of instruction.

In 2012, the university was placed 6th among the Nation's Premier Universities in Humanities, Sciences and Commerce stream, which secured the University with Potential for Excellence status.

The university hosts about 3,700 international students from more than 80 nations. It is one of the largest university systems in India, having over 300,000 students on its campuses and affiliated colleges.

#3 University of Madras
University of Madras is a public state university located in Chennai, Tamil Nadu. The university was established in 1857 and is one of the oldest and premier universities in India. The NAAC has conferred a 5 star accreditation to the university.
It has also been given the status of 'University with Potential for Excellence' by the UGC.

The university has over 6 campuses, with 73 academic departments under 18 schools, along with 109 affiliated colleges and 52 approved research institutions.

#4 Jadavpur University
Jadavpur University is apremier public research oriented university in the metrpolitan city of Kolkata, West Bengal. It has 2 campuses, which is semi-residential. #5 Panjab University
Panjab University is a public autonomous university located in Chandigarh. It was established in 1882 and is one of the oldest universities in India. Panjab University is ranked among the top institutions of higher education in India and in Asia.

Panjab University has 75 teaching and research departments and 15 centres for teaching research.

#6 Savitribai Phule Pune University
Savitribai Phule Pune University is located in Pune, Maharashtra. It was founded in 1948 and was formelerly known as the University of Pune. The university has 48 academic departments and has been conferred A rating by NAAC for its overall performance.

#7 University of Mumbai
University of Mumbai is the one of the oldest universities in Maharashtra. It was established in 1857 and was modeled on the University of London. The University of Mumbai is one of the largest universities in the world in terms of the number of students. As of 2011, the total number os students enrolled was 549,432. MU has 711 affiliated colleges.

#8 Andhra University

Andhra University is one of the oldest universities in India. Established in 1926, the university is located in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh. The university has four constituent colleges. The College of Arts and Commerce is the biggest constituent college with 28 departments offering 55 courses. The College of Science and Technology has 19 departments, which offers 44 courses. The College of Engineering has 16 departments involving in undergraduate and postgraduate programmes. The College of Law has been identified as an advanced center in law by University Grants Commission.

#9 Bangalore University
Bangalore University is a public state university located in city of Bangalore, Karnataka. Established in the 1886, it is one of the oldest universities in India. BU has 497 affiliated colleges and is accredited by NAAC with a grade A.

#10 University of Mysore
University of Mysore is a public state university located in Mysore, Karnataka. The university was established in the year 1916.
University of Mysore has 122 affiliated colleges and 5 constituent colleges. The university has 37 PG departments, 55 regular academic programmes.

The University of Mysore was accredited "Grade A" by NAAC in 2013. It is the 6th oldest university in India and the oldest in the state of Karnataka.
