Kittur Rani Channamma Award is a significant initiative from the Government of Karnataka for encouraging girls who have completed PUC II to continue with their higher studies. The aforementioned scheme was started in the year 2006-07. The scheme is only for girl students for studying higher education through CET exams by choosing vocational courses.
What are the criteria to avail Kittur Rani Channamma Award?
The girl students should fulfill the following criteria to enjoy the benefits of the award.
- This scheme is for girl students only
- The students should belong to the Below Poverty Line (BPL) families
- They should have scored good number of marks PUC II
If the students meet the above mentioned requirements, the government will repay the
amount paid by the student. The District Commissioners play an important role here since each 10 girl students will be selected from each district through a committee headed by the District Commissioner of that particular district. The students will benefit from the scheme till the completion of the course they have chosen to study; however, they have to clear the course in one attempt.
In the year 2013-14, Government of Karnataka released Rs. 65 lakh for this
scheme out of which Rs. 23 lakh was reserved under Special Component Plan (SCP)/Tribal Sub-Plan (TSP) plan for girl students from the SC/ST category.
