NITC and IITD to conduct training programme

The Civil Engineering Departments of National Institute of Technology, Calicut and Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi is organising a short-term training programme on Environmental Forensics which is scheduled to be held at NITC from 6 -12 July 2014.

As a field of science, Forensics is dedicated to the methodical gathering and analysis of evidence to establish facts in a court of law. Though crime scenes and laboratories are perhaps, most often associated with forensics, there are also many new and emerging fields like cyber-forensics, structural forensics, forensic accounting, forensic psychiatry, etc. that are today an integral part of forensics. Environmental Forensics is one such area where forensic methods are put to use for fixing the responsibilities/liabilities resulting out of a pollution episode. In many of the developed countries Environmental Forensics has evolved into a separate area of study; but is still to take shape in India. However a recent shift in the environmental redress mechanism followed in India, from the predominantly criminal, to a judicious mix of criminal and civil sanctions, has paved the way for Environmental Forensics in India. Trained manpower is what is required now to complement this shift in environmental policy. This training programme is an attempt in that line. Both the legal and technological aspects of environmental forensics will be discussed in this one-week training programme.

Faculty from AICTE-approved engineering colleges/institutions and working professionals from industries/utilities/R&D/other organisations with basic degree in Engineering and Science are expected to attend.

Participants interested in attending the programme should the send the duly filled in registration form on or before 6 June 2014.
