IIT Kanpur invites applications for 'Applied Game Theory' programme

IIT Kanpur invites applications for its short term course on 'Applied Game Theory For Engineers and Managers' for the academic year 2014. Game theory has been employed for years in several disciplines of social sciences, most notably in economics and political science to successfully solve problems of competitive equilibrium and strategy formulation. Interested candidates can apply online by visiting the official website of IITK. This course is run by the Department of Humanities and Social Sciences of IITK.

By mathematically capturing the behaviour of agents in strategic situations involving rational choices directed towards utility and profit maximisation, game theory presents a powerful framework for optimal resource distribution. Even though the theory has been known for decades, it is only recently that the power and utility of such techniques has begun to attract the attention of professionals from various disciplines of management and engineering.

This course aims to provide participants with a comprehensive treatment of game theory with specific emphasis on applications in management and engineering. These concepts will naturally lead to a rich exchange of ideas across diverse fields, further enhancing the understanding and advancement of key areas. The course is intended to serve the dual purpose of being a technical resource for participants while simultaneously introducing them to the techniques to apply principles of game theory in their respective areas.

How to apply:

A maximum of thirty participants will be selected from academic institutions across India to attend the course at IIT Kanpur. Applicants should be engaged in teaching. Selected candidates will be paid AC 3-tier class railway fare. Lodging and boarding will also be provided by the organiser. Application should be made on the registration form (photocopy is also acceptable) along with a caution deposit of Rs 2,000/- in the form of a crossed bank draft drawn in favor of "Applied Game Theory" payable at State Bank of India, IIT Kanpur (1161). This deposit will be refunded to all those candidates who are either not selected or to those selected candidates who finally participate in the course.
