Which colleges offer Silk Technology Engineering

Posted by:

Silk technology falls under the department of Textile Engineering. It basically deals with the production of silk through various sources like silk worms and other artificial sources like chemical treatments etc. Silk is one of the oldest and most important fabrics across the world, which is why its demand is always on the higher side. Silk is nothing but a natural protein fiber, a part of it can be used for weaving. Earlier, people use to rely heavily on silk worm for the production of silk as it was the only way of getting the fabric. But due to technological advancement, silk, can now be produced through various other artificial sources. In order to satisfy the ever increasing demand of the fabric, the government of India started Silk Technology Engineering so that the country can produce engineers who can increase the productivity with their skilled knowledge. Apart from this course, the government is also promoting Sericulture (it deals with silk worm farming), so that even farmers can also contribute to the silk industry. Students who have cleared their 12th class exam with Physics, Chemistry, Maths subjects are eligible for this course.

Oneindia education has identified a few renowned institutions that offer Silk Technology Engineering.
