LSAT is Law School Admission Test, which the applicants to law school take up. It is administered four times each year around the world at designated testing centers. Law School Admission Council (LASC) administers LSAT for aspiring law school candidates.

LSAT is designed to evaluate reading comprehension, logical and verbal reasoning skills. This test forms an integral part of admission process to law schools in the US, Canada (only for common law programmes) , University of Melbourne, Australia, and many other countries. An applicant will not be allowed to take LSAT, more than thrice within a two year period.

What is LSAT?

There are six sections in the test. They are : four scored multiple choice sections, an unscored experimental section, and an unscored writing section. 2 logical reasoning sections, containing 24-26 questions, where you have to analyse the logical errors in the statements. 1 analytical reasoning section containing 24 questions where you are required to solve complex deductive reasoning puzzles. 1 reading comprehension section containing 26-28 questions where you have to answer questions after reading the passage. 1 experimental section, which can be any of them mentioned (you will not be able to identify this section, hence, do well in all the sections). 1 writing sample section, in which you will be given 30 minutes to write an essay on a specific topic. Raw scores are converted to scaled score, with 180 being the highest , 120 the lowest and 150 at the median.

It costs $165 (USD) to take the LSAT in the US, and $164 (CAD) in Canada, as of August 2013.

LSAT must be taken before December for admissions into fall semester. Some students prefer taking it as early as in June, so that they will have enough time to re-take it if necessary.
