Validity of GATE scores extends to 3 years

GATE exam scores are valid for 3 years

There is good news for all M-Tech aspirants, as it has been announced that the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) entrance exam scores are now valid for three years.

Earlier, the GATE scores was valid only for 2 years. Decision of extending the validity of scores is taken to help the students gain experience after B.E/ B.Tech degree completion, and get admission to M.Tech degree or to gain desired jobs.

This will also help the students who have taken education loan to pursue B.Tech, as they can work for 2 or 3 years to pay off their load and then pursue their M.Tech degree.

Moreover, companies also hire the candidates who have 2-3 years of work experience. Now it is easy for the students gain more than a year industry experience.

According to reports, earlier, since the GATE scores were valid only for 2 years, students could only gain one year job experience before getting admitted to M.Tech degree.

GATE officials said "A student who wanted to work for two years to repay a loan taken before admission to B.Tech couldn't do so till now as his GATE score would have lapsed. But the change in rule will give them flexibility."

"The GATE score is important to get jobs in PSUs that do not hire graduate engineers too often. Sometimes, job opportunities in PSUs open after a gap of a year or two. It will greatly benefit those candidates who are waiting to get PSU jobs as the GATE score will now be valid for one more year" Partha Pratim Biswas, form executive council (EC) member of Jadavpur University said.

According to reports, more than 17 Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs) will hire the candidates with GATE scores.

Which includes:

  • Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd
  • Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd
  • Indian Oil Corporation Ltd
  • Telecommunications Consultants India Limited

The online registration for the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) for the year 2015 will commence from Sept 01, 2014.
