University of Mysore: Nobel laureates to deliver lectures

Mysore: Students at University of Mysore (UoM) will get an opportunity to listen to lecturers of Nobel laureates Venkatraman Ramakrishnan and Richard John Roberts.

 

Lecture is organised by the University of Mysore (UoM) as as part of the centenary celebrations, which will be held in the month of December.

During its year-long celebrations UoM, has arranged lectures from Nobel laureates from various disciplines across the globe. The first lecture was held on September 4 at Crawford Hall where Muhammad Yunus, founder of Grameena Bank, Bangladesh, and the 2006 Nobel Peace winner, gave lecture on 'Redesigning Economics to Redesign the World'.

About 12 laureates have been invited by the varsity authorities for the lecture series. Venkatraman Ramakrishnan, famously known as Venki Ramakrishnan, an Indian-born American structural biologist who won the Nobel for Chemistry for their study of the structure and function of the ribosome, will speak at Crawford Hall on December 11.

Similarly, Nobel laureate Sir Richard John Roberts, an English biochemist and molecular biologist who won the Nobel in Physiology or Medicine in 1993 for the discovery of split genes will talk on biochemistry on December 15.

Mysuru University has also invited Indian Space Research Organization (Isro) chief for the centenary lecture programme, which will be held in October-end.

AS Kiran Kumar, chairman of Isro will speak on the topic 'India in Space' at the Crawford hall in the university on October 30.
