Traditionally, COE was the first choice for the toppers to pursue engineering courses, but this year the trend has been changed.

The four students, Ravi Shankar, Darshini Meena, Rahul Balaji and Yogaraj who hail from in and around Coimbatore, have opted PSG College of Technology to pursue their engineering course for the next four years.

College of Engineering, Guindy was established in 1794, is no longer the first option of toppers today. In recent years, PSG College of Technology, Coimbatore was emerged as one of top engineering colleges in Tamil Nadu.

According to a private magazine's survey, COE has emerged as third best and PSGCT has emerged as sixth best engineering college in Tamil Nadu in 2014.

"I told my parents that I'd like to study here and they were also quite happy. All my seniors have said that the standard of teaching is just as good as CEG," said Ravi Shankar.

Rahul Balaji also agreed and said it was a ‘personal choice' to study in Coimbatore but opt to be a hosteler.

"Money is tough for a family like mine," explained Yogaraj, whose father is a powerloom operator.
