Telangana seeks more time for admissions

Hyderabad, July 7: The Telangana government will file an appeal in the Supreme Court on Monday for extending the date of completion of admissions in professional courses till the end of October.

The court had earlier directed the government to complete the process of admissions in engineering and medicine courses based on EAMCET by Aug 1.

The decision to file an appeal was taken at a high-level meeting chaired by Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhara Rao, on grounds of delay in fee reimbursements.

The chief minister told the officials that after bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh, cadre allocation was not done and as such there is lot of requirement of all India services officers by the new state.

"Out of an estimated requirement of about 320 IAS, IPS and IFS officers at present, under work to order instructions, only 70 such officers are working, each of them holding more than two to three subjects," said a statement from the chief minister's office.

The chief minister said it was becoming difficult to work with shortage of officers and fee reimbursement being a huge subject, the cut off date of completion of admission process need to be extended till end of October.

As per the bifurcation legislation, the existing process of admissions in professional colleges will continue for 10 years in both Telangana and Andhra Pradesh.

However, Telangana government has announced that it will not reimburse the fee of students of Andhra Pradesh studying in Hyderabad or other parts of Telangana.
