Supreme Court has directed Talangana and Andhra Pradesh medical colleges to restore the medical seats which had been disapproved. Around 600 MBBS seats will be restored.
SC also directed the medical colleges to send a written letter to the court that they should fulfill the Medical Council of India (MCI) norms.
The apex court directed MCI, that colleges to have their admission process and allow them to fill the seats as per the capacity of the rules till September 2014. By this, colleges would get 300 MBBS seats. The colleges have to fill these seats in this academic year itself.
SC strictly ordered that the colleges should follow the rules formed by the MCI, otherwise they would may lose their bank guarantees.
A MCI official said, "There was a technical problem in sending the letter., so govt medical colleges had been given a blanket restoration of medical seats by MCI this year."
Meanwhile, Talangana and Andhra Pradesh seeks SC permission to conduct second round of counselling to fill the vacant seats.
