Spelling Bee Competition: The hunt for Whiz Kid of Spelling in B'lore

In the quest to find the best school level Spelling Wizard in Bangalore, city-centric media company Explocity today announced "The Explocity 1st Annual Spelling Bee", sponsored by Embassy Group.

Open to all school students aged 13 and above currently studying in Bangalore, the "Bee" is designed to promote aptitude and excellence among school children in a fun environment. It allows the brightest kids, with the best command of the language to showcase their skills.

In the United States, various states conduct spelling bee contests and the finale is a prestigious event, well known internationally and keenly contested. It is common knowledge that 10 of the last 15 spelling bee contest winners in the United States, have been children of Indian origin.

For years this has sparked a considerable interest among school kids in India and now Explocity brings the spelling bee to Bangalore.

And the one ingredient for competence in communication is being articulate and evocative in language. In India, that language is English. The Explocity 1st Annual Spelling Bee 2013 is one way by which we expect that speaking well becomes cool. This is the first of an annual event and in years to come, we want to open the Spelling Bee to students across India."

This year, the title sponsor for The Explocity 1st Annual Spelling Bee 2013 will be the Embassy Group, a leading Indian property developer with a presence across commercial, residential and retail segments. The company also has a strong focus on education and development through Stonehill - it is full IB school, Embassy International Riding School and several education-focused community initiatives.

We think that contests such as these will not only provide a platform for students to challenge their knowledge and skill of the language, but also boost academic talent across all levels among schoolchildren."

The event is managed and operated by Explocity's partners, Globox Media. Vidur Patney, Director, Globox Media Private Ltd., commented, "We have launched this initiative to emulate the international Spelling Bee contest in India. The contest will be an ongoing annual event and our goal is to make it an experience that students eagerly look forward to each year."

Around 250 schools across the city are being invited to participate in the "Bee". Schools may send up to 5 students to participate. The daylong event will feature an Open Round where students will be mass tested on spelling through an interactive electronic mechanism. The top 40 students will qualify for the competition round, of whom, 10 will make it to the Semi-final round, leaving a face-off between two of Bangalore's best spellers for the final.

While the schools can nominate their students to take part, students may also compete in a unique game on Facebook. The game features a leader board where the top winners on the leader board will qualify for a "wild card" entry to the open round. Aspiring contestants may also directly register for a wild card entry based on availability.

The Explocity 1st Annual Spelling Bee 2013 will take place on December 8, 2013, at Jyoti Auditorium, Jyoti Nivas College, Koramangala. On site registrations will open at 9am.
