Scholarships for students from VIT

G Viswanathan, chancellor of VIT said that around 80 per cent of students in India, who had cleared class 12 are unable to get any educational assistance to pursue higher studies.

While he distributed educational aid of INR 5.76 lakh to 68 students from Vellore district, the chancellor said the above. The function was conducted in the University on Tuesday, under the 'Education for all' scholarship programme. "The universal education trust receives money through donations from public and other philanthropists," he said.

K V Kuppam Assembly constituency's students in Vellore district were the primary beneficiaries of the programme and this was later extended to Ranipet.

Viswanathan added, "This year we plan to extend the scheme to parts of Ambur, Anaikattu and Katpadi. As many as 234 students have benefited from the programme and I want all eligible students to take advantage of the programme."

More schemes for the students in the distrct will be planned by the chancellor. INR 1 lakh was donated by former V-C of Tirunelveli Manonmaniam Sundaranar University, Shanmuga Sundaram for the scholarship programme.
