Punjab Govt releases grant of Rs 31.92 crore for private colleges

Chandigarh, Dec 16: Punjab Government has released a grant of Rs 31.92 crore for the 92 private aided colleges in the state.

Disclosing this here, Higher Education Minister Surjit Singh Rakhra said that the decision was taken by the state government to impart quality higher education to students. He said that the grant worth Rs 31.92 crore had been issued to the colleges for the second quarter of fiscal year 2013-14.

Rakhra, in an official statement here, said that imparting quality education to the students was the top priority of the state government. Listing the efforts made by the state government, Rakhra said that Punjab is among the front-runner states in the field of education in the country.

Besides focusing on opening new colleges across the state, the government is laying emphasis on upgrading the existing infrastructure in the colleges in every nook and corner of Punjab. He said that new courses were being offered to the students in the colleges so as to enable them to compete with their peers across the globe.
