Punjab Government has agreed to add 72 more postgraduate medical seats to the Government Patiala Medical College (PMC) for the year 2014.
Currently, PMC have 133 MD / MS seats. Now govt will add 72 more seats to the existing seats.
According to the sources, seats would be added in all clinical and non-clinical departments of the college, which is the only government institute to provide tertiary healthcare to most districts of south Punjab.
"Currently, there are 133 seats for various PG courses in the college. Both the government and Baba Farid University of Health Sciences, Faridkot, have given approval to add 72 more MD/MS seats. Only approval by the Medical Council of India (MCI) is pending. We are hopeful that we would get MCI nod in a couple of months, which would pave our way to add seats from the coming academic session," said principal Dr K D Singh.
"We have already updated our laboratories and clinical units with the equipment mandatory for raising the number of seats. Moreover, recruitment process of new teachers and senior residents is also underway. We are hopeful that the MCI would give approval for the same before the coming session," Dr Singh said exuding optimism.
