Odisha Government to take a decision to conduct JEE Main exam

Odisha Govt to take a decision to conduct JEE exam

Odisha government will take the decision to conduct national level engineering entrance exam JEE in state on November 07, 2014.

In 2012, Odisha had accepted the JEE Main exam scores for admission to engineering courses across the state. The apex advisory body of the state Policy Planning Body (PPB) will meet to whether to continue with JEE or to re-introduce OJEE.

"After the PPB submits its recommendations, the state government will take a final decision keeping in mind the students' interest," said technical education minister Sanjay Dasburma.

On October 29, 2014, the Odisha Private Engineering College Association (OPECA) had requested to re-start OJEE for first year B.Tech admission along with JEE-Main.

OPECA Secretary Binod Dash said that the number of aspirants appearing for the JEE Main is decreasing from 2013 to 2014, when OJEE is stopped. "We are seeking to restore the earlier system where admission was held both through OJEE and the national JEE instead of only through the national JEE," said Dash.

Dash said two tests (JEE Main and OJEE) would mean an additional option for the students. If they miss out or don't do well in one, they can use results of the other. Only a handful of states are relying entirely on JEE Main for engineering admission in their respective states, he said.
