National Institute of Technology (NIT), Rourkela, is organising "Society for the Promotion of Indian Classical Music And Culture Amongst Youth", often known by its initials (SPIC MACAY), a state Convention 2k14. It is a voluntary youth movement which promotes Indian classical music, Indian classical dance, and other aspects of Indian culture. It is a movement with chapters in over 200 towns and cities all over the world.
One very influential event that can serve the purpose of bringing awareness amongst the oblivious but inquisitive minds of the students, is the SPIC MACAY conducted in NIT Rourkela.
The convention includes performances by Geeta Chandran (Bharatanatyam), Pandit V. M. Bhatt (music), Vikku Vinayakram (music), Ustad Vijay Ghate (music), Pandit Bhawani Shankar (music) and Pandit Hariprasad Chaurasia (music). The other events include ISM: Classical Night and State Convention.
The state convention will be held from 24th to 26th January 2014.
