NEET Counselling Begins Today, Paper Leak Report Can Be Filed

The counselling session for the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) for undergraduate medical and dental courses will begin from today. The counselling session will be done online only, no other method of seat allotment and counselling will be done.

The CBSE had released the results for the NEET entrance examination on August 16, 2016, way ahead of the scheduled date.

The schedule for online counselling which is to begin today was released by the CBSE on the official website of NEET on August 17, 2016.

Meanwhile, the Uttarakhand High Court has directed the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) and Nainital police to file paper leak case report. The Uttarakhand HC has also provided the CBSE and the police a period of 2 weeks to come up with a status report on the paper leak issue of the NEET 2 examination.

Earlier, On August 8, 2016, Anshul Sharma had filed a paper leak report with the Supreme Court. However, the Supreme court did not intervene in the NEET Paper Leak Issue. The petitioner was at liberty to approach the Uttarakhand HC. In a preliminary investigation conducted by the Uttarakhand police, 5 persons were arrested. The police pointed at the possibility of an alleged nexus with education mafia though the CBSE had ruled out question paper leak.

The CBSE has paid no heed to the allegations of paper leak of the NEET 2 examination and has proceeded to declare the results and it will go ahead with the online counselling session today.

The CBSE states that the paper leak issue was an attempt by some unscrupulous elements to cheat the candidates on false promises.

The examination for NEET Phase 1 and NEET Phase 2 were held on May 1, 2016 and July 24, 2016 respectively at various centres across the country. Earlier, some students and coaching centres raised the issue of a few mistakes in the NEET 2 question paper. Students were given 2 correct answers from 4 options leading to the possibilities of candidates getting 8 grace marks.
