National Stock Exchange and BIBS, Kolkata sign MoU to lauch PGPFM

Kolkata, February 4: India's leading exchange, the National Stock Exchange (NSE), and BIBS, Kolkata, Eastern India's leading Business School has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to launch a Post Graduate Programme in Financial Markets (PGPFM).

The programme will commence from academic session 2015-16 and classes will be held from July at the BIBS campus - Kolkata.

Mr Ravi Varanasi, Head of Business Development at NSE said, "There is a huge skill deficit in India, but growth in the financial sector will throw up lakhs of jobs in the coming years. Our attempt is to bridge this skill gap by educating young students about different aspects of the financial markets."

The programme is a first of its kind in Eastern India that aims at bringing a systemic, single focused approach to education in financial markets, leading to an MBA.

The programme is designed to provide hands-on education through NSE's Live Software simulations that give the students a complete exposure to the financial markets.

This will be accentuated by experts from NSE as well as from the Financial World who will mentor and train the students as an integral part of the course. At the end of the course a student becomes an expert in Financial Markets while also completing an MBA.
The courseware has been jointly designed by NSE and BIBS.

Students enrolling for the course will be taught by the BIBS Faculty and specialists from NSE, thereby giving them both the academic and practical approach to their learning. To benefit students, NSE will also provide simulated software as well as mock and live trading terminals to give students a feel of a real-time platform.

As students complete the 11 month long programme, they will simultaneously complete two semesters of their MBA. They will get placement assistance and will get an opportunity to be absorbed in the best of the finance companies.

While on the Job, students will complete the rest two semesters of their MBA.
Financial education has been a key focus area for NSE for many years. The exchange has conducted hundreds of seminars on financial literacy, to bring more people into the financial mainstream.
