Kalinga Institute of Medical Sciences (KIMS)- a constituent of KIIT University, hosted the 38th Annual Conference of Odisha Orthopaedic Association & Eastern Zone Regional Orthopedic Forum (EZROF). The conference was held from January 10 - 12, 2014. Around 206 Orthopedic doctors from Odisha, North East, Assam and West Bengal took part in the conference and presented their research papers. A huge number of guest speakers from Mumbai, New Delhi, Kolkata, Hyderabad and London discussed their experiences with the delegates and presented their research papers.
Well known joint replacement surgeon of Pune, Padma Vibhusan Dr. K. H. Sancheti and Organising Secretary of conference of KIMS, Dr. B. K. Behera, performed a complex THR surgery on January 10 in Orthopedic OT of KIMS to provide live demonstration to all the delegates.
After the surgery, Dr. Sancheti said that the OT's standard at KIMS is equivalent to the one found in New York Hospital, and this OT is the best for joint replacement surgery. Doctors were advised to be humble to patients by Dr. Sancheti.
Prof. R. C. Mohanty, eminent orthopedic specialist of Odisha, inaugurated the 10th EZROF Conference on January 11th 2014, in the presence of Dr. Sancheti, Indian Orthopaedic Association, Prof. P. P. Mathur, Prof. A. K. Jain, President, Vice Chancellor, KIIT University, Dr. K. M. Mishra, Associate Professor & President, Odisha Orthopedic Association and Prof. B. C. Das, Principal, KIMS.
The delegates were welcomed by Prof. Das. The doctors were advised to do more research work and publish more papers in journals as there are more number of patients in India than in other foreign countries, by Prof. Jain. Prof. Mathur appreciated the organising team of KIMS for a successful conference.
Dr. B. K. Behera, Associate Professor, Orthopedic, KIMS organised the conference. Prof. S. N. Mohanty of KIMS was elected as President for the election of the office bearer of Odisha Orthopaedic Association (OOA), which was held on the concluding day of the conference. Dr. Behera was elected as Vice-President, while Dr. N. C. Mohapatra of SCB Medical College and Hospital will continue as Hon. Secretary of the Association.
