JIPMER plans to expand telemedicine network

The Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research (JIPMER) has formulated plans to expand its telemedicine network by collaborating with several institutions across the world.

According to a report in Press Trust of India, a release from the institute said, "It had been proposed to establish the telemedicine collaboration with Telemedicine Development Centre of Asia, Asia Pacific Advanced Network and Trans Eurasia Information Network. Telemedicine infrastructure in the institute is up to date with most available telemedicine equipment including high speed (1Gbps) internet connectivity and satellite connectivity. A number of telemedicine projects were now in place in JIPMER."

"A delegation of doctors from JIPMER led by the institute's director Dr S C Parija attended the two-day 9th Asia Telemedicine Symposium held recently in South Korea which was conducted by Telemedicine Development Centre of Asia," the release included.

JIPMER is a medical school in India, and the oldest to teach European medicine in Asia. It is situated in Pondicherry. It is a tertiary care institute of national importance under the control of Union Health and Family Welfare Ministry, has been designated as Regional Resource Centre (RRC) for telemedicine activities in South India. The RRC has been catering to more than 160 medical colleges in the five Southern States.
