JEE JoSAA 2016: 1st Allotment List Out, IITB Popular Among Top Rankers

The Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA) has released the first allotment seats in IITs, NITs and other centrally funded technological institutes on June 30, 2016.

How to access JoSAA First allotment list?

• The first round seat allotment list is now available on the official website of JoSAA.
• Candidates who are willing to download the seat allotment letter have to pay the seat acceptance fee through e-challan or net banking through SBI.
• The first round of seat acceptance is scheduled to take place from July 1 - July 5, 2016.

Top Rankers Flock To IIT Bombay

As the first round of seat acceptance is in progress the top 67 rankers chose IIT Bombay to pursue B.Tech. Like the last year, IIT Bombay seems to be the popular choice among top rankers.

IIT Delhi is the second among the top choices of students, while the number of toppers choosing IIT-D has dropped from 30 to 28 this year.

The remaining 5 candidates among the top 100 have chosen IIT Madras. IIT Kanpur which used to be a choice for 2 to 3 candidates among the top 100, was not the top preference for any of the top 100 this year.

However, IIT Chennai and IIT Kharagpur saw more contenders for each seat

Though IIT Bombay and IIT Delhi are among the top choices for the top 100 rankers, courses in IIT Kharagpur and IIT Madras have received more applications. About 33,500 students have registered themselves for admissions this year.

There were about 224 contenders for 1,341 seats at IIT Kharagpur while there were about 221 contenders for each seat at IIT Chennai. While IIT Delhi and IIT Bombay is the top choice for the top 100 rankers, the contenders for each seat at IIT Delhi and IIT Bombay were 190 and 161 respectively. IIT Kanpur was alloted to 56 students in the top 500 which is a drop from last year's 75.

Institutes like IIT Hyderabad and IIT Gandhinagar which are new among the IITs got 2 and 1 students respectively from the top 500.

According to TOI, of the top 100 rankers, 37 candidates belonged to the IIT Bombay zone, which seemed to be the obvious choice for them. But IIT Madras zone had 30 candidates in the Top 100 who seemed to have chosen IIT-B too, while 5 students of the top 100 opted for IIT Madras.

No major changes in admission trend, CSE remains popular course

The opening and closing ranks for computer science and engineering (CSE) at IIT-B was one and 60 respectively, indicating that most in the top 60 headed there. At IIT-Delhi the allotment in CSE started at 24 and closed at 111 rank.

Admission to the electrical engineering programme in IIT-B opened at rank 9 and closed at 240. CSE was among the most popular choices at IIT-B and IIT-D, followed by electrical, mechanical and engineering physics.

CSE, electrical, mechanical and civil engineering are the most popular among all IITs put together. JEE (Advanced) organising chairman K V Krishna said students usually go by last year's statistics, therefore there is hardly any change in admission trends.
