Jamia Millia Islamia varsity to launch 4 new courses

The Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) University in Delhi is set to launch four new courses from the upcoming academic session.

The online application process for different undergraduate (UG), postgraduate (PG) and diploma courses has already commenced. The new courses are in Gender Studies, Biophysics, Public Health and Disaster Management.

According to institute officials, the four new courses will commence from the 2015-16 academic year. The Master of Arts (MA) in Gender Studies will be conducted by the Sarojini Naidu Center for Women's Studies, the PG Diploma in Public Health will be offered by the Department of Social Work, Master of Science (M Sc) in Biophysics will be under the Center for Interdisciplinary Research in Basic Sciences and the Diploma in Disaster Management will be offered by the Department of Geography.

Other than these academic courses, new specialties have also been introduced in the Master in Physiotherapy (MPT) program, including ‘Cardiopulmonary' and ‘Neurology'. These two new specialties have been added to the existing pool which includes ‘Orthopedics', ‘Sports', etc., the officials added.

The last date of application for all the courses is Friday, May 1, 2015.

The JMI University has been in the news recently for its plans to hike the fees as well as set up a new medical college-cum-hospital.

This is part of a set of reforms to be taken up by the varsity, including establishing a school of Earth, Atmosphere and Planetary Sciences as well as interdisciplinary education extending to the Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) and Delhi University (DU).
