Kharagpur, 21 March: Intel India today announced the commencement of the Intel India Embedded Challenge (IEC) 2014, an embedded design contest for students, interested individuals & entrepreneurs from all over India. This contest has been put forward to inspire the vast technically savvy community in India to architect, design and develop novel embedded applications based on Embedded Intel Architecture Processors in areas such as Consumer Electronics, Digital Security Surveillance, Medical, Storage & others. Segregated into three broad sections - Internet of Things Devices, Smart Solutions for Social Sector and Wearable Computing, the contest will provide a platform for participants to showcase their work on a global scale. The programme was announced by Ms. Kumud Srinivasan, President Intel India and Prof. P.P Chakraborty, Director, Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur, at an event at IIT Kharagpur campus.
Talking about the competition, Ms Kumud Srinivasan said, "We at Intel believe that through right mentoring and opportunities, individuals can create solutions for some of the biggest problems, faced by the society today. Intel India Embedded Challenge will give aspiring minds an opportunity to make their concepts into reality."
Talking about the contest and the involvement of the IIT Kharagpur, Prof. PP Chakraborty said, "We are proud to see the innovation coming out of this institute. Intel India Embedded Challenge has provided the right platform to individuals to build on their ideas and showcase their work to the world."
The Intel India Embedded Challenge 2014 has two main categories:
1. Student Category:
Students studying in technical institutions, management institutions, degree, diploma colleges across India can participate in this category. Students can participate as individuals or in a team not exceeding 3 members.
2. Professional Category:
Working professionals, faculty members, research associates, project associates, technology enthusiasts, independent / freelance consultants, technology solutions providers, entrepreneurs from across India can participate in this category as individuals or in a team not exceeding 3 members.
Participants will be tasked with development of prototypes using Embedded Intel Architecture based processors such as Intel® AtomTM processors and Intel® Galileo Development Boards. The finalists will showcase successful models to an eminent jury panel consisting of technology leaders, senior academicians, venture capitalists and government representative in December 2014. Winners will get an opportunity to participate in regional and global innovation and entrepreneurship programmes of Intel or collaborators of Intel.
